How to favorite in the world
A Boy journey Through old HongKong
Part 1: Star Born in a Cradle of Struggle”
April 7, 1954
On a misty hilltop in Victoria Peak, Hong Kong, a child was born into a humble household.
His parents named him Chan Kong-sang, meaning “Born in Hong Kong.”
But because of his chubby body and boundless energy, he was fondly nicknamed “Paocut” “Cannonball.”
That little boy would grow into a legend the world would one day call… jackie Chan.
Poverty with a smile
Jackie was born into hardship.
His father worked as a cook for foreign embassies; his mother, a housekeeper.
They lived in a tiny one-room home – no kitchen, no luxury.
Some days, there was just one rice ball or half a bowl of soup.
But inside that little home lived something powerful –
Joy, energy, laughter, dreams.
Jackie wasn’t an ordinary child.
He would run, fall, tumble… and laugh.
Unknowingly, his body was already learning how to become a stuntman.
🎭 The Harsh World of the peking opera school
At age 7, his parents enrolled him in the China Drama Academy, a Peking Opera school known for its extreme discipline.
This was no ordinary school.
Here, children were trained relentlessly in martial arts, singing, acrobatics, dancing, and comedy.
Every day began at 5 AM.
Hundreds of stretches, rehearsals, bruises, beatings.
No play. No freedom. Just training.
Jackie endured it all, quietly shaping himself into a future master of movement and timing.
👫 Friendship, Discipline, and Hard Lessons.
His closest companions Yuen Biao and Sammo Hung– were fellow students who would one day also become movie legends.
The school was their battleground.
They ate together, trained together, cried together.
There were no toys or rewards.
Only wooden sticks, tough masters, and endless practice.
But within that suffering, Jackie found his will to rise.
He often told himself:
"I may be small… but my dream is bigger than this world."
The child Forged by the cane
The beatings were painful.
The hunger was real.
But what seemed like cruelty then… would become the reason Jackie Chan grew into a man who could jump off skyscrapers, fall through glass, and smile through pain.
The boy who once had nothing –
would one day give the world everything he had.
